School’s out!

Filed under: Uncategorized — spiro @ 9:57 pm

Today was my last day of school. Classes are out, I’ve written my two finals, and submitted all my projects. Now all that’s left to do is graduate, sometime in early June.

How does it feel?

Well, I have mixed feelings. One one hand, I’ve had the semester from hell; I feel quite burnt out from all these projects that I’ve had to work on over the last few months, and I was really looking forward for this to end. On the other hand, student life is totally amazing! There’s the end-of-semester rush, but the rest of the time is pretty chill. You get to hang out with a crowd that shares the same interests as you, learn new things and watch the cute girls :P If I could, I’d be a student all my life! Seriously, these four and a half years were the best!

Now what’s next?

Well, following a recent campus recruiting event, I’ve been invited for an interview with Microsoft in Redmond in May, so I will definately have to prepare for that. In fact, I’ve got some electronic paperwork to fill-in for that right now so I’ll keep it short.

Apart from that I’ll be on the lookout for a good IT job, blogging a little more often, messing around with my computer, doing some work around the house, and hopefully getting a chance to relax a little bit. I will definately keep you guys posted on how things go with Microsoft.

Will I continue to get my master’s, Ph.D?

Well, I have been thinking about that, though for the moment I don’t know, so I will postpone the decision a year. We’ll see where I am next year, what my goals are, etc. For now, I want to take a break from school, as much as I like it :)

Why I *still* don’t have a cell phone!

Filed under: Uncategorized — spiro @ 8:38 pm

I have to admit sometimes a cell phone would have come in handy, and it’s quite hard to resist to the temptation when pretty much everybody around me has one. But when I look at the cost of owning one, I’m actually very happy I don’t have one.

Apparently in Canada we’re being screwed much worse than third-world countries when it comes to these. Link

Kathy Sierra Gets Death Threats

Filed under: Uncategorized — spiro @ 6:36 pm

Last year, CUSEC brought us Kathy Sierra, who really amazed people with her awesome presentation. Since then I read her blog regularly (whenever I have some time) and the book she co-authored on design patterns has been of great use.

Unfortunately, there are some douchebags out there on the internet, who though it would be "fun" to make death threats and post disgusting photoshopped pictures depicting their sick little brains’ thoughts. Sadly, it kind of reminds me of that moron that shot up Dawson College last semester. It is unfortunate that technology is used as a catalyst that brings together these communities of douchebags, but, as I like to state, the internet is a reflection of society, which has a tendency to expose the real-life society problems we like to hide.
