The bus went right through!

Filed under: Uncategorized — spiro @ 9:45 pm

Today’s the first day of CUSEC, the annual Canadian University Software Engineering Conference. I unfortunately stayed up so late last night trying to recover data off a dead hard disk, so I guess I did not quite wake up on the right foot this morning.

So, the usual, after a couple of snoozes, I go eat breakfast, make my sandwitch, put on my mp3 player and go wait for my bus. The bus passes right through the bus stop without stopping at all. Like, WTF dude? there’s a bus stop here, and it’s been here for years as far as I know! Why does it have to happen on CUSEC day?

So, right now I am really frustrated, return home, give RTL (the bus company) a call to make a complaint. The guy was quite nice, he did take the complaint and promised to investigate the matter. Fallback to plan B. Dad offers me a lift. Unfortunately, our CR-V would not start, so plan C was in effect. Take the next bus. Great, now I need to face that busdriver that shunned me 1/2 an hour ago.

So, I walk back to the bus stop. The bus comes the usual couple of minutes late. I point down with my finger, signing the driver to stop. He does. I get in last, say hi to the driver, in a very serious tone. A pretty heated conversation ensues.

Me : Err… Are you the one who …
Busdriver: You need to learn to take the bus….
Me (louder tone) : … passed right through this stop?

Busdriver starts screaming, I simply shut off when people scream at me.

Me (even louder voice): You are arrogant on top of this. You’ll see I called and made a nice complaint.
Busdriver: I am arrogant? If you scream at me you get off the bus.
Me: Fine.
Busdriver: You can go make your complaint, I don’t care.

I go sit down. Then I hear people talking about this particular driver always being late, busdrivers being overpaid, so I join in the conversation. Arriving at the terminus, he had a nice surprise waiting for me. He asks everybody to exit from the front door, and of course he stops me, “you do not scream at busdrivers, blah blah blah” (even though *he* really did the screaming), and “if you have a problem with me here’s my supervisor”. “Great!”

The supervisor was actually behaved very profesionally. I explained my issue, the driver explained it as well and it got settled then and there. Good. Though now I am late for the CUSEC introductory keynote.
