Well, to start off the new year on a good footing, I just did this to my keyboard. It really looks (and feels) brand new now!

Well, I thought I’d update you on my weight loss plan…

It’s been close to four months since I modified my eating habits to lose weight (never say diet, it’s a four-letter word). I now tip the scales at 228 pounds. That is a loss of over 50 pounds since I have started this!

At this point, I’d wish to continue, and perhaps lose another 50 pounds.

This week we got our DSL line activated, and it could not come a moment too soon. I did plan it out to get the DSL before the cable contract ends, but somehow last friday’s storm managed to kill it, after many years of reliable service.

Anyway, I am really glad I decided to switch to DSL. My main gripe with cable is that Videotron sets upload and download limits, 10 and 20 gigs a month respectively. An extra gig in either will cost you 8$, which is robbery! Sure, they have another plan you pay 65$ a month for and get unlimited transfer, but for that much I can have 2 DSL modems!

There are other things I didn’t quite like about Videotron. Their contract states that you cannot run servers, and they block some common ports, like 80. The other thing is their newsgroup service. The retention rate is crappy, something like 5 days, not even a stupid week! And to add insult to injury, they increased the monthly price by about a dollar? Not much, but a dollar for what?

I am now with Inter.net Canada, which is an alternative to Bell and their Sympatico thing. I was referred to it by a friend, who’s with them for awhile now, after having received a bill for 500$ of extra transfer with Videotron. It’s really fascinating how they use the same phone lines, though Bell charges $15 a month more, and even that’s with a 12-month contract! Seriously, compare that to $30 a month!

Anyway, I am now enjoying my new found freedom of completely unlimited internet. Discovering the wonderful world of torrents and hanging out at the pirate bay. HAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
