Back!

Filed under: Uncategorized — spiro @ 11:44 pm

Things are slowly returning back to their normal pace: work, gym, sleep, and little time for the occasional odds and ends. The memorable time in Greece is now turning into some distant dream, like those you wake up in the morning and you thank God for them.

In any case, I am definitely thinking of going back next year, for a month as well. I am also considering obtaining my citizenship, right after I finish school, which implies doing 6 months of compulsory military service. During that time I can also try to find a JOB.
The Way I Drive

Mom loves to complain about the way I drive. She thinks I have acquired aggressive driving habits in Greece, which is probably true by watching people drive over there, but the truth is I have always been aggressive, but also very defensive, which is how I keep a clean driving record. And I do tone it down when I drive with my parents in the car. Ask my brother, he gets to see it all :) Zoom zoom!
Formatting

Another thing in the plans is to format my computer. For some reason, two years ago when I last did that, I decided that an 8 gig partition was enough for Windows. The truth is that is has now become a real pain to maintain. I always have to delete temporary files just about anywhere Windows finds it appropriate to lay them.

Also, by now, half a tonne of things must be upgraded. Things like service packs, windows patches, video drivers, Firefox, all need updating. Other old programs are no longer being used, but are so glad to crowd the Start menu. In other words, time to clean up.

Consider this site is also hosted on that computer, which means even more work, i.e. setting up a temporary server for it, or at least a “server unavailable” message.
School

The winter semester went quite well. I took Software Process, Networks and Compiler Design. My GPA also went up, ever so slightly, to park itself at 3.02 points, equivalent to a B.

Though now I still have to think of school, for next fall. As usual, their stupid web registration system is giving me a hard time. They impose all kinds of idiotic restrictions on courses I must take, like, only one section is available to me, usually it’s that particular section out of three that would conflict with my software engineering courses that I must take now, and where only one section is offered.

Think this is normal? OK, Say you walked in to a street market looking for apples. How would you like it if the farmer gave you a bag of rotten apples? Wouldn’t you protest, expecting him to let you choose your bag of apples? Why should it be any different in a university setting? I pay, thus I should have the right to select which section I with to register into? Besides, you know what they do with the rotten apples at the end of the day?

Last year I got pretty pissed off. I went there for academic advising. I took an appointment, a day off work, like a good kid. I meet this idiot in his office, All that was left for me to do was to formulate my demands. You want advising? Read the literature yourself, and do whatever you think is best.
Pictures

I have finished posting my pictures from Greece on my site. To see them, click on Photos from the main menu and select Greece. You can then click on an album to view the pictures in it.
The Gym

I have started going to the gym. It’s not that much harder now, even though I have not been there for a month. The first day I decreased the weights and last Friday I put them back to normal again. Only the bench is killing me.
