Greece!

To tell you the truth, I do need to go on vacation. How do I know I need a vacation? Simple. My passport has expired more than 5 years ago, meaning I did not travel since… 5 years ago, at the very least.

I am travelling using my dad’s Aeroplan miles. This restricts me to the Star Alliance schedule, so I will be leaving Montreal’s PET airport with Air Canada, stopping in Germany’s Frankfurt International airport , and arriving in Athens’ brand new International airport with Lufthansa. I will take the reverse route comming back. For those of you who want direct flights, well you can fly with Olympic Airlines from Montreal, Toronto and New York. Flight times are a mere suggestion, service is well… sketchy, BUT, the food is awesome (because they serve Greek food) and it is a very safe airline to travel with. Also, Air Transat offers charter flights from Montreal to Athens

Arriving in Greece, either my aunt will pick me up at the airport, or I will take a taxi to her place in Ellinikon, a southern suburb of Athens, pretty much where the old airport used to be. That is where I will be staying.

From there, I will be frequently going to visit Athens, because it is a mere city bus ride away, blending in with the locals! Of course, this may not be the best idea for those who do not speak Greek, but I do. Also, I am sure my aunt is going to take me places, i.e. my dad’s village, Paradisia Arkadias, near Megalopoli, some beaches on the southern tip of the Attica peninsula. Also, (yes I know that is cliché), I would like to visit an island or two, and making it more like a one-day thing, so this pretty much restricts me to the Saronic Gulf. For that, boats tend to leave Piraeus early in the morinig and come back at night. As far as beaches go, IMO, the further away from Athens, the better, but then again at that time of the year, there might not be that many people to overwhelm nature’s sea filtration system. I have to say my favorite beaches are on the west coast, as the waters are more wavy, and the sand tends to be finer.

Well that’s about it right now, I will of course be taking pics, with my Canon PowerShot A95 and reporting them over here, probably when I come back, because, well, Athenian PSTN connections aren’t the top of the line, and as with the rest of europe, local calls are billed by the minute.

Till then, however, there are 6 weeks remaining. Yeah, I know this might not seem like a lot, but it does encompass an end of semester. For those of you who are not studying, it means that naval battle simulation game, a compiler and a UDP sliding window file transfer protocol application must be completed. On top of that, I have to study for a Networks final exam.
